Spring Morel Hunt With the Kids Before School
This morning we went mushroom hunting with the kids before school, and the Lord gave us a good little success.
Spring on a homestead has a way of pulling everyone outside. There is work to do, of course, but there are also these small windows that feel like gifts. A short walk through the woods, a careful look along the ground, and the excitement of finding something worth bringing home together.
The kids were glad to be part of it, and so was I. There is something especially satisfying about teaching children to notice what is growing, what is useful, and what season we are actually in. Foraging slows everybody down in a good way. It teaches patience, attention, and gratitude.
We came back with a modest but real haul of mushrooms, enough to make the morning feel memorable before the rest of the day got moving. Those are the kinds of moments that shape a family more than people realize. Not complicated, not expensive, just shared work and shared delight.
That is one of the things we love about this life. Even an ordinary weekday can begin with a basket, a walk, and the reminder that God is still providing good things right out of the ground.
