Spring Cleaning, Scrap Metal, and an Old Brake Caliper
Today was the kind of homestead day that does not look glamorous, but still moves the whole place forward.
We spent part of it doing some spring cleaning and loading a trailer with scrap metal from old unfinished projects. That kind of work is easy to postpone, especially when the pile builds slowly, but clearing it out makes a place feel lighter. It is not just about appearance. It is about removing drag from the household and getting rid of reminders of things that have sat too long.
The other part of the day was troubleshooting the brakes on one of our older vehicles. After working through the problem, I found that the brake caliper was the issue and got it removed. Lord willing, we will have a new one on in the next day or two.
That is a real part of homestead life too. You do not only build new things. You maintain old ones. You sort through what still has value, what needs repaired, and what finally needs hauled off.
Some progress comes in rows planted or animals fed. Some of it comes in a loaded trailer, greasy hands, and one less broken part standing in the way.
