Homemade Mayonnaise, Coleslaw, and Broiler Supper
One of the good things about homestead life is how often the work in one place shows up on the table somewhere else.
Today we made homemade mayonnaise, and it turned out exactly the way we hoped. That small kitchen win became coleslaw for supper, which already felt like a good reminder that learning basic skills pays off in real ways.
The main dish tonight is smoked BBQ chicken hind quarters from broilers we raised on pasture ourselves. There is a special kind of satisfaction in serving food that carries the story of your own labor, from the animals in the field to the meal shared with family.
We are having family over tonight, and that makes the whole thing even better. A homestead is not only about production. It is about stewardship, competence, and hospitality. Sometimes a successful day looks like a bowl of fresh coleslaw, a smoker doing its work, and people you love gathered around the table.
